Ernest Burgess is a farmer, businessman, graduate of MTSU and UT, a lifelong resident of Rutherford County, and he's raised his three children here. He and his wife, Peggy, just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary, surrounded by their children, seven grandchildren and one great grandson. 

Proven Leadership

In 2006, Ernest Burgess was elected Rutherford County Mayor and led our county through unprecedented growth. Our economy has flourished, our school system has grown and been recognized as one of the best in the State, a full-time County fire/rescue department has been established and much more has been accomplished under the leadership of Mayor Burgess. As State Senator, he’ll be able to solve state-wide issues with the unique knowledge of how our local areas will be affected.

Committed to Community

Ernest Burgess has served Rutherford as more than just mayor. He’s served for several years as an Elder and is an active member of the North Boulevard Church of Christ. Ernest has served on several local community boards, such as Discovery Center, Linebaugh Library, United Way, MTSU Foundation and Main Street of Murfreesboro. He, also as mayor, has served on several regional boards and TACIR (Tennessee Advisory Commission on Inter-Government Relations).
